Tips for an effective CV

Your curriculum vitae (CV) or resume is your principle marketing tool. It will rarely gain you a good position on its own but can certainly determine whether you will receive further consideration or not.

Some elements are essential for your CV to work effectively for you. The information provided in your CV should be:-

Complete yet concise and to the point
(ideally not more than three pages long)
Complete in terms of employment dates, which should include the month
   and year of employment
Correctly spelt and grammar checked
Accompanied by a head-and-shoulders photograph (jpeg or bitmap format)
Accompanied by two reference contacts
Be specific as regards the position you are looking for. This assists the
employer or recruitment agent when sifting through the hundreds of CVs
that they receive. ‘General’ applications, more often than not,
  get overlooked
